a spiral journey

Hana Bulaong (they/she) is a first-generation, queer diasporic Filipino, currently based on Nisenan lands “greenwood, california”. Their mother’s side is from the Sierra Madre mountains in Nueva Ecija. This mountain range is the longest in the Philippines and often referred to as the backbone of Luzon. Their father’s side is from the interconnected river waterways of Bulacan; alive intersections where trade, knowledge, and culture has exchanged for thousands of years.

Hana believes that creativity is a prayer-practice for liberation. She is devoted to honoring the complex ecosystems that exist around them. They are most inspired by our animal and plant relatives, somatic modalities of healing, and returning home to slower ways of living; resisting capitalist-colonial structures of urgency. With a BA in Political Science and a background in community organizing, they view art as a tool to support liberation and healing movements on a micro and macro level.

She has been ceremonial machine-free tattooing for 6 years. They are currently most excited about exploring natural ink from foraged materials, herbalism, textile work, painting, and earthen cob building.
